MSc, Biologist; PhD
Biologist – Responsible for quality control – Prometeo Laboratory
1994: Degree in Biological Science, University of Bologna, with honors.
2000: Specialist qualification in Microbiology and Virology, University of Bologna, with honors.
2007: PhD in Biochemistry, University of Bologna.
From 2008 to date she has been working at the laboratory of quality control of the Cell factory, belonging to the Musculoskeletal tissue bank, Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute. Her activities are focused on validation and standardization of analytical techniques applied in microbiological quality control for the manufacture of cell-based drugs, according to the European pharmacopoeia. In particular Dr. Storni is involved in the in-process and end-product batch testing for sterility, mycoplasma and endotoxin assay. Her interest are also focused on bacteriological diagnosis of prosthetic joint infections by the application of new microbiological techniques (i.e., implant sonication for the removal of biofilms).
From 1995 to 2007 she has continuously worked in the bacteriological diagnosis of infections at the Microbiology Laboratory of the S.Orsola University Hospital, Bologna. Main research field: spirochetal and chlamydial infections, molecular characterization of Chlamydia plasmids, DNA extraction and sequencing, western blotting, Real Time PCR applied to the diagnosis of toxoplasmosis and Mycoplasma pneumoniae Respiratory Tract Infections.
From 1997 to 1998 External Research Scientist at Novartis Vaccines Laboratory (Siena Italy) where she collaborated on the project: “Identification of vaccine candidates against serogroup B meningococcus by whole-genome sequencing.”
1995 she won a fellowship for an exchange study program at the Microbiology Department, Unilever Research Colworth Laboratory (Colworth House, Sharnbrook, Bedford, England). Work project: “Modelling of osmoregulation in the food borne pathogen Staphylococcus aureus”.
Fluent English.
Good knowledge of major operating systems.
Clinical microbiology, bacteriological diagnosis of prosthetic joint infections, molecular diagnosis of bacterial infections, regenerative medicine in orthopedics, Quality Control in Advanced Therapy Medicinal Product according to cGMP.
