Patients can only be admitted to the Rizzoli-Sicilia Department after a request by a specialist from the medical team of the same Department.

The hospitalization activity has started on April 11th, 2012. The following typologies are available:

• Ordinary hospitalization
• Day Surgery

Ordinary hospitalization

The hospitalization is programmed in time, and the patient is inserted in the dedicated register (waiting list). The expenses for the hospitalization are covered by the National Health Service (SSN).

Day Surgery

The “day surgery” is a form of hospitalization which provides the performance of the surgery operation in the morning time band; the patient is dismissed in the late afternoon of the same day.

In case the doctor recommends so, the patient can be asked to come back on the day after the operation, for a check-up visit at the Day Surgery Department or in another location which will be communicated by the orthopedist.

Whether instead the orthopedist, having consulted with the anesthetists, finds it appropriate to prolong the hospitalization, the patient will be transferred to the hospital’s Orthopedics ward, in order to continue the cure.
